job and internship fair reflection paper
On Wednesday, February 20th, I attended the Job and Internship fair that George Mason held. Though my major is mathematics(which can apply to many businesses and companies in terms of finances, etc.), I want to be a secondary level teacher. There weren’t any businesses or companies there that dealt specifically with education, however, I did talk to companies that I were familiar with and that I liked doing business with.
The first company I spoke with was Verizon Wireless. Job wise, they would be looking for graduating seniors with degrees in IT. If I got hired to the company, I would circulate around and try different jobs until I found one that really fit me.
Next I talked to Target. As far as jobs go, they aren’t looking for a specific type of major—this is because Target offers a wide variety of jobs, so anyone can do just about anything. In terms of internships, or shadowing, I would shadow all the types of jobs within the copy and find which one would be the best for me.
I also talked to Macy’s while I was at the Job Fair. They were similar to Target in the sense that they were not looking for a specific major. Also, depending on your job in the company/your major, you could be positioned at a different place within the company. You could be placed in a store or one of their management buildings.
Overall, the job fair was very helpful even though I’m only a freshman and very unlikely to get hired. Getting the experience early on in my college career is very valuable and one of my the employers even complemented me on coming to the job fair at such an early time.
